UPSS Submission Deadline Extended to 1 December

Deadline Extended to 1 December 2020 — Note that if you are not yet part of the UPSS Mentoring Program, you must request a mentor no later than November 1 to have your paper considered for the PSA 2020/2021 biennial meeting.

The deadline for submissions for papers to be presented as part of the UPSS Session of the PSA2020/2021 meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, 11-14 November 2021, has been extended to 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time on December 1, 2020. The PSA will once again be offering travel grants for early career scholars, onsite childcare services, and dependent care subsidies of up to $200.

Philosophy of science scholars from underrepresented racial, ethnic, or gender groups who are participating in the UPSS Mentoring Program and are either current graduate students or have received their PhD within the past three years are welcome to submit an extended abstract of their proposed talk to be considered for inclusion in the UPSS Session at the upcoming PSA Biennial Meeting. UPSS scholars should work with their mentors to refine a paper for presentation on any topic in the philosophy of science. If you do not yet have a mentor, please visit upss.philsci.org/mentoring, and indicate that you would also like assistance developing a talk to present at the PSA Biennial Meeting. You must request a mentor no later than November 1 in order to submit an abstract for consideration for the PSA 2020/2021 biennial meeting.

Co-authored papers are permitted only if all co-authors are participants in the UPSS Mentoring Program. Papers co-authored with an UPSS mentor are only allowed if the mentee is the first author and PSA session presenter.

Submissions must include a 1,000-word abstract, not including references. Format and citation style should match those of Philosophy of Science (see https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/journals/phos/instruct for details). A second, short abstract of no more than 100 words should also be submitted for inclusion in the PSA program if accepted.

Abstracts will be reviewed by the UPSS Committee and the top three submitted abstracts will be selected for presentation at the biennial meeting. Members of the UPSS Committee are listed here: https://upss.philsci.org/contact.

(Click on "Create Account" on the top menu.) Then log into your account and click on "Submissions." For co-authored papers, the presenting author should provide the abstract; non-presenting co-authors are asked either to create an account or to log into their account (if one is created for them by a co-author) to answer optional demographic questions.

Please note that in accordance with current PSA policy:

1. Papers submitted to PSA2020/2021 may not be published, accepted for publication, or under review at the time of submission.
2. At most one paper on which you are the presenting author can be submitted.
3. No one is permitted to present more than once at each PSA meeting. Thus, if a symposium proposal or a contributed paper for which you are a presenting author has been accepted, you cannot submit a paper for which you are the presenting author for the UPSS session. Commentators that are part of symposia are considered to be presenting authors. A scholar may appear as co-author on more than one paper or symposium talk but may present at PSA2020/2021 only once. This policy does not apply to the poster forum; a presenting author on a contributed paper, symposium paper, UPSS paper, or cognate society session paper may also present a poster in the poster forum.
