The Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy and the Chair of Philosophy of Science at the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Study of Religion at LMU Munich seek applications for the following position in the context of Dr. Barbara Osimani´s ERC Starting Grant project “The Philosophy of Pharmacology: Safety, Statistical Standards, and Evidence Amalgamation”.
One Doctoral Position (part-time 50%)
Deadline: December 8, 2016
Starting date: April 1, 2017
Candidates are expected to conduct research on the above-mentioned research project. A background in at least one of the following fields would be helpful: foundations of statistics, scientific methodology, (formal and/or social) epistemology, general philosophy of science (esp. causality), philosophy of pharmacology, computational biology (complex systems). The position is for three years. The appointment will be made within the German 50% TV-L E 13 salary scheme. The starting date is April 1, 2017 (an earlier but no later starting date is possible). There is no obligation to teach. The successful candidate is also expected to take on some management tasks. She or he will have a masters degree in philosophy, statistics, medicine, pharmacology, or computational biology/bioinformatics by April 1, 2017. Medical doctors are also encouraged to apply.
The MCMP hosts a vibrant research community of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, doctoral fellows, master students, and visiting fellows. It organizes at least two weekly colloquia and a weekly internal work in-progress seminar, as well as various other activities such as workshops, conferences, summer schools, and reading groups. Several of our research projects are conducted in collaboration with scientists. The successful candidates will partake in all of MCMP’s academic activities and enjoy its administrative facilities and financial support. The official language at the MCMP is English and fluency in German is not mandatory.
