Peter MenziesPeter Menzies (Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, Macquarie University) died on Friday 6 February, after a long illness. Peter received a BA (Hons) in Philosophy from the Australian National University, an M.Phil in Logic and Metaphysics from St Andrews University, and a PhD in Philosophy from Stanford University. Before joining the department at Macquarie in 1995, he held positions at the University of Sydney and the Research School of Social Sciences at the ANU. He was an Associate Editor of the Australasian Journal of Philosophy, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities, and President of the Australasian Association of Philosophy in 2008-9. Peter will be remembered by friends, students and colleagues as one of the most lucid and generous voices in Australasian philosophy, and by philosophers worldwide as one of the most astute metaphysicians of his generation. He was particularly well known for many influential papers on causation. He is survived by his partner, Catriona Mackenzie (Professor of Philosophy, Macquarie University), and their extended family.
